About Store Search

Store Search is an independent grocery price comparison tool that answers one question: where is your shopping basket cheapest today? You pick the products and the stores, and it looks up live prices — from retailer APIs where they exist, and from AI-powered web search everywhere else — then shows you the cheapest store per item and the cheapest full basket.

Why it exists

Grocery prices for the same basket routinely differ by 20-40% between stores in the same area, but checking each store's website or app one at a time is tedious enough that almost nobody does it. Traditional price comparison sites rely on scraped or affiliate databases that go stale within days. We built Store Search to make a live, side-by-side comparison take seconds instead of an evening.

How prices are sourced

There is no database of cached prices. Every search runs at the moment you ask for it: supported retailers are queried through their public APIs or hosted search endpoints first, and everything else is looked up by Google Gemini with Google Search grounding, which reads current prices from the stores' public web pages. Results include source links so you can verify any price yourself. If a search fails, the app says so — it never fills in simulated prices.

Coverage

Store Search compares 40+ retailers across the United States (Walmart, Kroger, Target, Costco, Aldi and more), South Africa (Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and more), and Europe (Lidl, Tesco, Carrefour and more), plus online and delivery services. A built-in travel cost calculator factors fuel prices and distance into the comparison, so a cheaper store has to stay cheaper after you pay to get there.

Independence

Store Search is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or paid by any retailer it compares. Stores never pay for placement and cannot influence results. The product is funded by an optional Premium subscription — the free tier (5 searches per month) is free permanently.
